Overview
The Nakasendo once linked Kyoto and Edo through the mountains. Its best-preserved stretch runs through the Kiso Valley, where stone paths connect post towns that look much as they did 300 years ago.
Days are 10 to 16 kilometers with luggage transferred ahead. Evenings are for cedar baths and multi-course dinners.

Day 1: Kyoto
Meet your leader and walk the start of the old road.
Days 2 to 3: Magome to Tsumago
The classic stretch over the Magome Pass.
Days 4 to 5: Kiso Valley
Forest trails, waterfalls and the town of Narai.
Day 6: Kamikochi
A day in the high valley at peak autumn color.

The black castle and a farewell dinner.
Day 8: Depart
