Packing for Patagonia: the short list
Four seasons in a day means layers, not luggage. What our guides actually carry.

Every season we watch guests arrive with too much of the wrong thing. This is the list our own guides use.
On your body
A merino base layer, a light fleece and a proper waterproof shell. No cotton, no down jacket on the trail.
On your feet
Boots you have already walked 50 kilometers in, plus two pairs of wool socks. Blisters end more treks than weather does.
In your day pack
Water, sunscreen, a warm hat, sunglasses and trekking poles. Rent the poles in Puerto Natales and save the luggage space.
